Maine Beacon: Maine, U.S. Diverge in COVID-19 Spread, But That’s Not the Whole Story

Maine’s cases of COVID-19 have held steady or fallen in recent weeks as more of the state has re-opened. At the same time, the nation as a whole is seeing some of the highest daily case counts since the pandemic began.

That may be a good comparison for the state, but it may mask some underlying issues, including Maine’s worst-in-the-nation racial disparity in coronavirus infections.

Esther and Mike discuss these dynamics on the podcast this week, as well as a rash of racist incidents across Maine and plans by Maine colleges and universities to re-open this fall.

Plus: The BIW strike and the Democratic U.S. Senate debate.
